Why Family Photos Matter— Even When Your Kids Are Pre-Teens
Lateley, I've heard a few parents say, "My kids are too old for family photos!" But let me tell you, capturing memories with older kids, especially pre-teens, is just as important as when they were little. Their personalities are really starting to blossom, and it's a great time to freeze these moments before they rush into their teenage years.
Usually, my “office” consists of golden grass, rolling hills, wildflowers, and California oak trees. My coworkers are typically cows grazing off in the distance and deer prancing nearby. But the Salsamendi family and I decided to do something a little different for their family session. Instead of my usual sprawling landscape and NorCal vibe, we opted for a colorful morning in Downtown San Jose, on the hunt for bright, bold murals and a beautiful skyline.
Downtown San Jose definitely delivered! There’s no shortage of fun and funky murals that made the perfect playful backdrops. Each mural had its own feel, and it was so much fun watching the kids’ personalities pop against those vibrant colors. If you have a pre-teen or teenager, murals are an awesome way to bring out their fun, colorful side, even if they’re “too cool” for traditional photos.
Family photos aren't just for babies and toddlers. Whether your kids are just starting middle school or getting ready for high school, these moments are fleeting. Trust me, you’ll be glad you took the time to capture them now!
